Recount text is a text that tells events that have occurred


∆ 3 ASPECTS OF A RECOUNT:


1. Social function

The social function of recount text is to retell an event or events that have occurred chronologically. Recount texts are usually taken from the knowledge, memorable experiences, or an essay written by the writer. The purpose of this recount text is to provide information, share views and experiences, so that readers can understand the sequence of events experienced by the writer.


2. Text Structure

a)Orientation
This section provides a general overview of the information topics that will be discussed. The opening paragraph tells who, when, where of the experience to help the reader place the events in time and place.

b)Events
Contains a description of a series of incidents or events that are told sequentially and in detail. Usually consists of 3 or 4 events.

c)Reorientation
This closing section contains a summary of the events or events that have been told. Apart from that, the writer usually includes opinions or impressions of events that the writer has experienced.


3. Language Component

• SVOMPT

S=Subject
V=Verb
O=Object
MPT=Adverb (Manner, Place, Time)

• Use simple past tense 

•Using chronological connection words




∆ TYPES OF A RECOUNT


1.Biography
This recount text tells about life history of a person/figure. Usually uses a third point of view.

2.Personal
This type of recount tells an event and provides information based on the author's personal experience.

3.Procedural
A recount procedure is a recount that contains notes about the steps that have been taken in making something.

4.Imaginative
This recount tells an imaginary story in detail with the sequence of events.




∆ EXAMPLE

Title: Shopping experience at the flee market at Taman Indonesia Kaya


•)Orientation 

Last Friday, my friends and I went to the flee market. The flee market is along the road near Taman Indonesia Kaya. Flee markets are usually held early in the morning on Fridays, and there will be many people shopping there. So my friends and I went there for work purposes as well as shopping and having fun.


•)Events

Event 1
When we arrived at the flee market, we split up into groups according to the groups we had been divided into. We walked around and saw what was there. I noticed a lot of vendors selling different foods, beverages, merchandise, and other items. At that time I was a little confused about finding something to buy.

Event 2
After walked around for a while, two of my friends were interested at the zuppa soup seller and they bought cheese flavored zuppa soup for 17 thousand. Another person bought strawberry flavored mochi for 7 thousand. Then, we continued walked around and entered the Indomart there. My friend and I bought some snacks and some also bought ice cream. When I was going back, I saw an iced tea seller at the end of the flee market and I bought Jasmin iced tea for 5 thousand to quench my thirst.

Event 3
At that time, my friends and I decided to take a short break at Taman Indonesia Kaya. We sat down and started tasting the food and drinks we bought. Of course, that complemented by casual chat and exchanging stories. Don't forget to immortalized the moment by taking several photos. Until finally it was 9 o'clock and we had to go back to school.


•) Reorientation 

My friends and I returned to school after we finished walked around and buy various kinds of food and drinks at the flee market. The food and drinks we bought were mochi, zuppa soup, ice cream, snacks and iced tea. The lively atmosphere and various types of sellers at the flea market added a new experience for me. Don't forget our interactions with friendly sellers also added to my impression.
