 Thursday's flood disaster in my area



•)ORIENTATION

From Wednesday night to Thursday last week, flood disasters hit almost the entire Semarang area. At the beginning of March, which should have started to enter summer, actually feels like the peak of the rainy season. Rainfall is very high and occurs continuously, causing water to increasingly overflow onto land and causing flood disasters. The flood disaster disrupted all community activities.




•)EVENTS


EVENT 1

On Wednesday night, heavy rain occurred continuously without stopping, causing water to overflow, especially in the lowlands and plains near the sea like my house. Initially the water first entered the back of my house and was followed by water entering from the front. When the water came in, we panicked a little and rushed to secure all the items that would be submerged in the flood. Plus, several parts of the roof were leaking which also made things difficult for us. I tried to cover all sources of electricity using plastic bags.


EVENT 2

The flood had surrounded all parts of my house, at the back the flood was knee-high, and at the front it was calf-high. After we felt we had secured enough items, we took a break by sitting on a chair while continuing to observe the situation. Suddenly the electricity flickered for a few moments, what had been on turned off and finally came back on. In a situation like that, I actually saw my cat had fallen into the water, I immediately grabbed it and dried it. Time went on and it was 23.58, I couldn't sleep because almost all parts of my room were leaking and filled with things, my father even slept on the cupboard because there was no place to sleep.


EVENT 3

Until morning on Thursday the flood had not subsided, but thankfully the rain had subsided a little. We had sahur in the morning surrounded by floodwaters. And in the morning at around 06.00, I intended to take permission not to go to school, apart from the environmental conditions not allowing it, I was also not feeling well that day. However, it turned out that I received information that learning was carried out online. I also took part in online learning and did the assignments given while the house was still flooded.


EVENT 4

At around 12.00, the flood began to show signs of receding. We drained the remaining water that was still pooling in the house so that it would dry quickly. When the water had receded enough, my family and I started cleaning the house. I mopped the house to make it look clean and after that, we started moving all the items we had secured to their original places. Until the afternoon we were able to clean the house and it was completely free from flooding.




•)REORIENTATION

Floods have always been a scourge in my area, because every time it rains heavily for a long duration there will definitely be flooding. So the people around have anticipated it in advance. The flooding last week became quite large scale and hampered community activities. However, this flood can make people help each other to help each other. Therefore, just be grateful for what happened, because there is no point in complaining about a situation.
